Bone Density Screening measures bone mineral density for the detection of osteoporosis, a condition of reduced bone mass resulting in increased fracture risk. This 15 minute scan is recommended for post menopausal women, people taking corticosteroids and thyroid medications, and those with certain other conditions (e.g. endocrine disorder or certain types of chemotherapy). Additionally, it is recommended for those who have a diet low in calcium, smoke, drink heavily and/or do not exercise. Bone Densitometry uses ultra-low dose radiation, less than a chest x-ray.
